We had lots of fun while fishing. Pat wears his "safety" glasses while Nancy wears the "Big Fish" Luck of the Irish Hat!

Cindy's Day Five

Today was a "Moose Wonderful" Day!!!

We saw a cow moose and her calf on our way to Chena Hot Springs. We also visited the Ice Museum for another "cool" activity!!!

Cindy's Visit -- Day Seven

CindyMakes Friends with Santa

We began the day with a late breakfast (8:30 am) at Sam’s Sourdough CafĂ©. Cindy had sourdough pancakes (delicious)!!!

After breakfast we headed to the Farmer’s Market, a “must see” in Fairbanks. In addition to lots of fresh organic vegetables and beautiful flowering plants, the market presents some very talented local artists and their beautiful and amazing wares.

We visited Santa at North Pole, AK. Cindy was 2nd in line with all the kids who wanted a chance to sit on Santa’s lap. We know him personally. He was looking for Russ to see if he has been a good boy in 2010.

Our next stop was Pioneer Park (Alaskaland), a wonderful community park with lots of activity and lots to see and buy. Cindy had an opportunity to “feel” what it is like at 40 below zero temperatures. See the picture to prove she experienced 40 below and survived!

A trip to the famous truck stop, know as Hill Top, wrapped up our last day with Cindy. We are very sad to see her visit with us come to an end. Therefore we needed some comfort food. Hill Top is known for its famous homemade pies. People travel many miles just to get a piece of homemade pie at the Hill Top Truck Stop!

Our Trip to Anchorage and Valdez - August 2010

On Friday, August 13, we headed to Anchorage (a side trip for the Valdez fishing trip). Of course "shopping" had to be added since "fishing" was planned for the 16th. We had a wonderful trip down the Parks Highway to Anchorage. We even got to see a glimpse of Mt. McKinley on the way. The shopping was great! We both got some new MBT tennis shoes. They took some getting used to...but, we love them. And best of all, my plantar fasciitis has been cured!!!

Valdez Fishing for Silver Salmon

Our very special friends, Pat and Peggy, took us out in their boat (along with their deckhand, Alexis) fishing for silver salmon. We had a great day fishing. Russ caught the first silver (the smallest one of the day). Nancy's first catch was the biggest fish in the box for about an hour. The more we fished the bigger they got...does that sound like a "traditional fish tale?" Well...believe it or not...it is true! Just look at the pile of fish heads behind Nancy as she cleans the last one of the thirteen caught that day. She is becoming a real "outdoors woman!" Holding and cleaning fish is a real accomplishment!

THANK YOU, PAT AND PEGGY, for taking us on our first Silver Salmon fishing excursion! We had a GREAT time!
